History of plaster
Plastering is one of the oldest techniques used in building! There is evidence that primitive peoples used mud to strengthen the outside of their homes to create a durable barrier against the elements. Over time, plaster was used to make ornate decorations on ceilings and walls. The primary use of plaster still hasn’t changed much in the modern-day. Plastering NH homes will allow for a solid and durable finish that will keep your walls in excellent condition for years to come.
What is plaster made of?
Standard plaster is composed of gypsum, lime, or cement. The material is then mixed with water and sand. All together, these ingredients create a thick pasty composition that can be used to finish walls and ceilings. Depending on the binder used to create the plaster, it has different properties. Gypsum plaster has great fire-resistant qualities. Lime plaster is typically more flexible than the other types. Lastly, cement plaster has the best moisture resistance.
Why should I plaster over drywall?
Veneer plastering NH homes can help create a more rigid wall surface that won’t dent or scratch easily. The smooth finish of a veneer plaster will also hide drywall joints! When painting your living room your favorite color, there will be no need to worry about ugly wall lines. The lines of drywall without veneer plastering can create visible shading in your home. A veneer plaster finish is only about 3/32 inches thick, yet the end product will smooth and quality.
